Privacy Policy
The short version
- Glass Scan does not collect, upload, sell or share any personal data.
- The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send anything off your phone.
- Codes are read on your device. Camera images are never saved or sent anywhere.
- There are no ads, no accounts, no analytics and no tracking.
Who we are
Glass Scan is a QR code and barcode reader for Android made by RizLabs. This policy explains what the app accesses on your phone and what happens to that information. If you have any questions, contact us at the address at the end of this page.
What the app accesses and why
Glass Scan only uses the permissions it needs to work. Each one is used on your device and nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.
| Access | Why it's needed | What happens to it |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To read QR codes and barcodes live. | Camera frames are analysed in memory and then discarded. No photos or video are recorded or stored. |
| Photos you choose | Only when you tap "Scan a photo" and pick an image. | The image is read once on your device to find a code. It is not copied, kept or uploaded. |
| Storage (Android 9 and older) | Only when you tap "Save image" for a QR code you created. | The QR image is saved to your Photos. Newer Android versions need no permission for this. |
| Vibration | Short haptic feedback when a code is found. | No data involved. |
Information stored on your phone
To show your scan history, Glass Scan saves the content of each code you scan, its type and the time you scanned it. It also saves your settings, such as theme and performance options. All of this is kept in the app's private storage on your device. It is not uploaded, and the app opts out of Android's cloud backup.
You stay in control of it:
- Turn off Save to history in Settings to stop saving scans.
- Open a scan in History and tap Delete to remove it.
- Tap Clear history in Settings to delete everything at once.
- Uninstalling the app deletes all of its data from your phone.
What we don't do
- We don't run servers for the app and we don't receive any of your data.
- We don't show ads or use advertising IDs.
- We don't use analytics, crash reporting or tracking tools.
- We don't sell or share data with third parties.
- We don't require an account or sign-in.
The only third-party code in the app is the open-source ZXing barcode library, which runs entirely on your device.
When you open another app
Some results have buttons that hand off to other apps on your phone, for example opening a link in your browser, calling a number, writing an email, opening a location in your maps app, searching the web for a product, or sharing through the Android share menu. Glass Scan passes only the text from the code you chose to act on. What happens next is covered by the privacy policy of the app you open.
Children
Glass Scan is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the effective date at the top before the new version is released.
